Second Presbyterian Preschool Summer Camp

ANNOUNCEMENT (5/20): To prevent the spread of the coronavirus and to keep our preschoolers and teachers safe during the coronavirus pandemic, the Preschool Committee has cancelled its 2020-2021 Science and Music Summer Camps.

Second Presbyterian Preschool is delighted to offer two weeks of summer camp.  Each week has a specific theme and includes stories, crafts, games and directed play.  All campers must be at least 30 months old by May 1st and potty trained.  Campers will be placed in classes according to age and availability.

Younger friends (12-29 months by May 1st) are invited to attend for a week of childcare.  These spots are limited, and first option is given to younger siblings of our campers.

Science Camp June 15-19, 2020

Come join Mrs. Wheeler June 15-19 for five days of science fun! Each day we will explore a different topic with experiments, hands-on exploration, art, stories, and fun snacks. Our week includes:

Crazy Contraptions: Knock over towers with a pendulum, lift toys high with pulleys, and send objects flying across the playground with a giant slingshot.

Up, Up, and Away: We will make and experiment with airplanes and several other flyers, and see what we can lift with some helium balloons.

Engineering Challenge: Have fun making houses, towers, and bridges, and a big clubhouse we can all fit in!

Ocean Commotion: Dig for shells, learn about ocean animals (even sharks!), and have fun playing with water when we turn the preschool into a day at the beach.

Fun In the Sun: This day is all about our closest star. Play with shadows, make sun prints, experiment with solar power, and even use the sun to cook a special snack.

Music Camp July 13-17, 2020

Come join Mrs. Rodgers July 13-17 for five days of music camp! Each day of music camp will focus on a particular children’s book. After listening to the story, students will participate in a variety of activities based on the theme of the book, such as singing, instrumental accompaniment, movement, dramatization and musical games. The theme of the day will continue in the classroom through arts and crafts, games, educational activities and other stories that correlate with the theme.

This year’s books will be:

  • The Chick That Wouldn’t Hatch by Claire Daniels
  • Never Play Music Right Next to the Zoo by John Lithgow
  • Saturday Night at the Dinosaur Stomp by Carol Diggory Shields
  • The Three Little Pigs and the Somewhat Bad Wolf by Mark Teague
  • If You Ever Wanted to Bring a Piano to the Beach, Don’t! by Elise Parsley
